What we're about

Hello Omaha! Eager to play an active role in the development of Skynet? Well look no further than the Omaha Data Science meetup. From old school veteran to newbie novice, our group has shared interest in developing predictive models, identifying interesting insights, and teaching machines to learn.

Our group meets once a month to discuss the hot data science topics of the day, get into the nitty gritty of a machine learning algorithm, or debate whether our neural networks dream in electric sheep. Heck, we might even take part in a Kaggle competition and destroy those know-it-all Silicon Valley data scientists at their own game.

So if you’re looking to learn more about data science, talk shop with fellow data scientists, or you just want to sing Daisy along with HAL, than hit that ‘join’ button.

Field Talk | Impact of Neural Networks on Robotic AI

Rail & Commerce Building

“Number five is alive!” -Johhny 5 In the upcoming meeting, our focus will be on how recent data science advancements are being incorporated into robotic artificial intelligence. With the advent of neural networks that can train themselves on how to classify images, drive cars, and even create art, we are now seeing these models give rise to bots with the capacity to teach themselves how to walk. Incorporating neural networks into robotic AI eliminates the need for extensive human programming while making this form of artificial intelligence much more human like. However, the incorporation of modern neural networks in to robot AI will inevitably lead to unique robots with different kinds of personalities. Are we at the dawn of a new era of more functional useful robots? What is the implication of robot AI that is much more human like than anything we have seen before? And most importantly, is this the beginning of the end for mankind? Is incorporating tensor flow into a Sony Aibo how Skynet begins? If you would like to be a part of this discussion, then you need to be at this meeting. If on the other hand you strongly adhere to the principle ‘ignorance is bliss’ than avoid this meeting at all costs. But when a simulacrum of Arnold Schwarzenegger lays waste to mankind, don’t even think about complaining about how you weren’t warned.
