Open Code Orlando -- Career Workshop

Hello Open Coders!

You got those code skillz. Now, for those of you seeking to apply them with a company, it’s time to workshop it!

Note: if you still need your monthly fix of code camaraderie, you’re still welcome! We’ll have a few developers on hand for some code advice too. Just know it may be a little noisier than usual :)

This Open Code will be a bit special. This workshop, we will have mentors on hand to help jumpstart your soft skills! Bring your resumes, your portfolios, business cards, and your laptops, because we're going to get you job ready!

Want to do an interview and hear how awesome you are and what you can improve on?

We got that too!

Joining us for this special Open Code: Interview Edition will be senior developers, experienced designers and hiring managers from Code Hangar, Code School, Skillcrush, PowerDMS, Highwinds, and many others, all to give you some tips and tricks for polishing your presentation in the job hunt.

YOUR MISSION (should you choose to accept it):

Applying for jobs is a labor of love, and it’s hard to give meaningful advice for the myriad possibilities each one of you snowflakes represents. But because this is a practice event, and we want to give consistent feedback - you know, the kind that makes sense and you can use - we are going to structure this into one coherent scenario.

You, a backend/frontent/designer/coder, are applying for an exciting position that awesomely suits your talents with Code Hangar. Prepare yourself accordingly!

All of our mentors will give feedback as if we were all hiring for a position relevant to your background with Code Hangar. This is our attempt to level the field and really focus in on your interview skills.

Because we only have so many mentors and we want to give some quality feedback, spots for interviews are limited. We will have resume/project/portfolio advice and a Q&A discussion ongoing to help get everyone some advice, we can only guarantee 30 spots on a first-come, first-serve basis.
