Kara DeFrias joins us to share her experiences as White House Experience Design Director for Vice President Biden. We'll hear about her UX work on his Cancer Moonshot, an initiative that aims to accomplish ten years worth of cancer advancement in five years' time. The plan includes leveraging vast amounts of data from places like the Dept. of Defense's cancer registry and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Kara will also speak about her work with 18F, one of President Obama's tech squads. Considered a startup within the Federal Government, 18F leverages human-centered design, agile development, and data science to produce Open Source tools (https://github.com/18F/) for Federal agencies. Both of these cutting-edge efforts have challenged conventional wisdom about what it means for something to be "good enough for government."
Come hear about it from someone who directly contributed to the movement!
Thanks again to Amanda @ The Vine for The Irvine Company's generous support hosting our events and parking!!

We meet on the first and third Tuesday of every month from 7-8:30.
We follow an agenda that typically includes hearing a brief presentation from a local government official or open-government project advocate followed by our working in teams on various projects.
Everyone is welcome! We have a wide variety of skillsets and are always looking to include interested people with interesting projects.
This is a fun and productive way to get involved. We hope you can attend.
Please join our Google Groups page to stay in the loop. You can receive up to the minute emails, daily or weekly digests.
Since we meet so regularly we've noticed guests aren't always RSVP'ing. We're averaging 15 people each meeting and hope you'll check us out!
