Blockstack, the decentralized computing network and app ecosystem, is holding a DApp (Distributed App) development contest with prizes in cold, hard CASH. By developing a DApp based on blockstack, you'll not only produce something really cool and good for your users, you'll have the chance to win up to $15,000 cash plus other prizes. See contest details at https://blog.blockstack.org/welcome-to-the-age-of-apps-that-cant-be-evil/ (and more about Blockstack at https://blockstack.org/technology/).

This is the first of two meetups that Open Source Chicago is hosting to support developers in building DApps on blockstack.

We'll kick this meetup off with some light socializing and then lunch sponsored by Blockstack (vegan and vegetarian options available). During lunch, Aaron Blankstein, a lead developer at Blockstack, will give a brief overview of Blockstack and it's use-cases and inner workings. Then we'll have a brief collaboration session that will give people the opportunity to find co-developers (if desired), present ideas, ask questions, and get feedback.

From there (around 1:30), it's work work work! We'll take a few little breaks in between, but the goal will be to have at least a good, solid start on your app by the time you leave, which you can continue to work on over the following week.

NOTE that this is not a hackathon in the traditional sense: You are encouraged to get a head start on your app before coming to the session, and you're allowed to keep working on it afterward!

What we want is to give you space and resources to build a cool application that you can submit to rep Chicago in the contest and win the prize!

We strongly recommend you complete the introductory ("Zero-to-Dapp") tutorial at https://docs.blockstack.org/develop/zero_to_dapp_1.html before coming to the session.

The session will be held at our normal gathering spot, 318 W Adams St. Please post any questions to the message board, and check out the resources below to get started!
