Setting up an Ubuntu web server from scratch

Details
This is a bimonthly event to teach newcomers how to set up a basic Ubuntu web server.
Online event: I'll stream my desktop and we'll work through the step-by-step guide on our wiki. We'll use Amazon Web Services to set up an EC2 instance and install Ubuntu on it. Then install a webserver, a database and show you how to securely connect to it.
We'll aim to achieve the following:
- Setting up your Amazon Web Services account.
- Installing an Ubuntu Linux server.
- Securely connecting to your new server using PuTTY/ssh
- Installing the web server software (Apache)
- Configuring PHP/MySQL
- Creating a basic webpage
There will be plenty of opportunities through the night to ask any questions.
Alternatively, you can continue on from where you left off at any of the previous events - or you might want to try installing any software you are interested in (like Wordpress, Dokuwiki, Pleroma or any new projects you'd like to try out), just let us know and we'll help you get them set up.

As always, remember to check out our open source chatroom on Matrix at #opensource:glasgow.social (sign up at https://matrix.glasgow.social if you don't have your own homeserver).
