17:00 // The State of Open Source in Financial Services // Hilary Carter and Colin Eberhardt

Over the summer, FINOS, The Linux Foundation, Scott Logic, Wipro and GitHub worked in collaboration to conduct the FINOS ‘2021 State of Open Source in Financial Services’ survey.

The results depict an industry in which open source adoption is widespread and the value of open source is clearly recognised, with the majority of respondents making contributions in their own time. However, the results also demonstrate the extent to which the full benefits of open source are as yet untapped by the financial services sector.

Hilary and Colin will summarise the key findings of the survey and set out what steps the industry can take to break through these barriers and benefit from the innovation that open source software and standards deliver.

Abby joined IBM in 2019 as a full-stack web developer before moving to the Quantum Computing department as a Developer Advocate in March 2021. She is currently working on Qiskit, IBM’s open source software for quantum computers. As a primarily self-taught developer and quantum enthusiast, she will take you on a lightning tour of the quantum computing realm.

17:50 // Create a Tokenised Asset in 20 Minutes // Maxwell Hsu

Tokenised assets are emerging as a new type of asset class that will change how products are bought and sold in the market. We hear a lot of talk about tokenising assets – from real estate to cars, financial instruments, and more. But what does this mean for developers and how is this done with code? In this session, Max will share with you a step-by-step process to create, split, merge and ultimately transfer ownership of a tokenised asset using Daml, the open source language for smart contracts from Digital Asset. You will walk away with the start of a new skill set that will support the future of financial services.
