Building Modern Web Apps workshop - with PWA & Web Components
Details
We're super excited to host the May Open Source SC meetup and focus on a topic of great interest to many - building modern web apps.
The session will follow a workshop / hands-on format to allow for attendees to "do" and take away knowledge and skills that are immediately applicable.
Doors open at 6:00 pm, programming begins at 6:30 with community announcements, workshop delivery begins around 6:45 pm EST. Food and beverages will be available, as always, as will cool swag.
The session:
Building modern web apps - Hands on with PWA and Web Components
The web is turning into an application platform. Web Components give us a way of defining reusable UI components. Progressive Web Applications improve performance in poor network conditions. You can install them on your phone and they can send you notifications for important events.
In this presentation, we will build a small application from scratch. We'll learn the basics of Web Components and Progressive Web Applications through examples. After the presentation, you will have the skills needed to get started working on your own PWA.
What to bring:
For folks that want to code-along, Marcus recommends having Git, NodeJS, any editor they comfortable using, and a working internet connection (SOCO guest wifi) for API calls. We will have folks on-hand ready to help those that may have questions or fall behind :)
The speaker:
Our speaker / instructor for the evening will be Marcus Hellberg, Lead Developer Advocate with Vaadin. Marcus is traveling from San Francisco / Silicon Valley where he focuses on web development, PWA, and Web Components.
