We are The Open Throttle Riders (formerly the Spokane Motorcycle Riders) and this group was formed so that motorcycle enthusiasts could get together, meet new people, share experiences and ideas, while doing a little riding along the way. We are a very diverse group of riders with wide variety of skill levels and machines. We are not a Harley group (although there are a few hogs here). It doesn't matter what you ride...as long as it can keep up (haha).
We offer many different ride options to accommodate as many member preferences as possible. From short to all day rides as well as overnight trips, I'm sure you'll find something to your liking here. In the interest of having fun we have a few Important POLICIES you need to be aware of so please take a few minutes and read this page in it's entirety. Members of the Open Throttle Riders accept the following upon becoming a Member of this group:
Our Code-of-Coduct: As Open Throttle Riders members, we agree to act kindly to others at events and with any comments posted on our message boards. We will show respect to others, our surroundings, as well as ourselves. We will participate in and support published events represent the group in a respectable manner. No personal, business, or corporate "advertising" of good or services is allowed on this site. Any communication viewed as "advertising" will be removed immediately.
Membership Dues: Annual member dues are $5 per member. Some events may have small fees associated with them depending on the event and Fundraisers may occur at some point in the future. The money raised pays for our online Administrative MeetUp Fees and any other fees associated to maintaining the group. Any unused balances will be used to support special events such as "year end" outings.
Being Safe: Although it is hoped for and expected that all members behave in a kind and safe manner towards each other, occasionally there are people out there (in the internet world) who do not have the best of intentions. We are all strangers at first until we get to know each other. It is true that there is safety in numbers and a group setting is the best possible place to meet and get to know others. You have an opportunity to observe people over time and watch how they behave and interact with others. Please use your best judgment at all times. If you feel unsafe as a result of the actions or words of a member of our group, please let me know via private e-mail.
Riding: We ride in a staggered formation. We are aiming for a spacing of two seconds to the person directly in front of you and one second to the next person ahead of you. If we get to a road that has no shoulder, then we automatically go single file. When we are on a twisty road, remember that YOU are the only one who is responsible for the speed that you corner at.
Events: Please read the entire event listing before generating e-mails with questions, it should have all the information you need regarding the event. We try to post events as far in advance as we can for planning purposes but there will be events occasionally posted 3-4 days in advance. I am unable to post events on short notice, so if there is something you'd like to see on our calendar e-mail me well in advance. Reminder e-mails are not always sent out in a timely manner, so it is recommended that you check our calendar often so as not to miss any new events posted, or be unaware that changes have been made to an existing event.
Reservations: It is very important that you RSVP for an event. On rides with larger numbers of riders, it's important that our Road Captain's and support riders know how many members to expect on any given ride. This information is vital to them providing the safest most enjoyable ride that they can. We do keep track of attendance and no shows and it's no fun to stand around waiting and watching for you, so we expect you to be conscientious about changing your reservation.
Drinking, Drugs and Behavior: Motorcycle riding is inherently dangerous and requires constant focus and attention. For this reason there is no alcohol or drugs allowed during our rides. Any violations of this policy will result in being banned from the current ride and possibly future ride. Please keep pictures posted on our site tasteful. We all want to have fun, but need to consider whether the comment or gesture about to be made (whispered or otherwise) may be rude, inappropriate or offensive to others. We are a social group without focus on religion and politics and ask that conversations are kept light and respectful.
I will continue to do my best in providing you with a variety of riding opportunities that can accommodate all skill levels and offer comfortable, entertaining, and welcoming environments. In return I ask you to follow Our Policies and to Be Kind to Others.
Thank-you for your unique participation in our group. Here's to many more fun times ahead!
