Join into International Open Data Day by participating in Vancouver’s Open Data Day Hackathon on March 3, 2018! Hosted by the Open Data Society of BC.
Our community is facing many challenges including the opioid overdose crisis, affordable housing and rising racism together with the ongoing pressure for governments to do more with less. This year we invite members of our community, including all levels of government and health, local tech sector, and others who want to make an impact in their community, to explore how we can help address these challenges through open data and civic tech.
Open data is data that can be freely used, shared and built-on by anyone, anywhere, for any purpose. Civic tech is technology that enables greater participation in government or assists government in delivering services to the public. Together they can improve transparency, aid in decision making, and provide better and faster services to those who need it. However, it takes a diverse community of skills and experiences to reach their potential.
On March 3, we invite you to come together at the Vancouver Open Data Hackathon to explore how open data and civic tech can help address the challenges we face. These challenges cannot be solved in one day. Instead, we aim to provide a space to inspire ideas, prototype possabilities, and develop relationships.
A competition panel will vote for the best prototypes or data visualizations that help address or bring greater insight to challenges across four categories:
- opioid overdose crisis, harm reduction and mental health
- affordable housing
- eliminating racism and discrimination in BC
- helping governments do more with less Event site coming soon!
