OpenStack and the Growth of the Container Ecosystem: How One Affects Another

Details

Hope everyone who was able to attend enjoyed our January meetup. Now, it's time to gear up for February.

In addition to a great talk (see details below), you'll have a chance to virtually meet the new co-organizer for our group, Chet Burgess. Chet was one of the original members of the Metacloud team and will be helping me out, as needed, when I'm on the road. Chet will actually be at the OpenStack PTG in Atlanta during our meetup but, if the "demo gods" are smiling on us, we'll do a virtual introduction.

For the February meetup, I'm thrilled to welcome a first-time presenter (and member of our group), Amit Tank from AT&T!

AT&T will also be sponsoring the February meetup.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the February OpenStack L.A. Meetup!

Presentation Abstract:

OpenStack and the Growth of Container Ecosystem: How One Affects the Other

Have you and your Organization been closely evaluating OpenStack to help solve your business use-cases and application needs?

Somewhere along the way Docker and Kubernetes popped up on your horizon, and that got you pondering if you should be leveraging all or some of those options to deliver your apps effectively.

Meetups such as this, play an important role as a forum allowing you to exchange, share, and learn about user stories. Stories that you a glimpse into how other adopters are thinking about these strategic topics.

We will discuss:

  • Leveraging Docker to containerize the OpenStack Control plane

  • The hybrid approach - Virtualized decoupled OpenStack services

  • Kubernetes governed Dockerized OpenStack services

  • Beyond the technology design aspects, what other factors are worth considering
