OpenStack L.A. April Meetup - OpenStack Use Cases

Details
We’re finally ready to take the wraps off the details of the April OpenStack L.A. meetup…and there’s a lot to share.
First and foremost, we’re coming to the west side! The April meetup will be held at the Verizon Digital Media (VDM) facilities. Thanks to the VDM team for making their space available to us!
Second, for those of you who were not able to attend the March meetup, this will be your chance to meet our group’s new co-organizer, Jessica Orozco from Rackspace. She’s already been a big help in adding a new location for our meetups and I’m really looking forward to working with her as our group continues to grow.
Speaking of growth, we’re so close to 1,000 members I can taste it. And, for those of you who have visited our meetup page recently, you’ll notice our new logo. OpenStack L.A. is now an officially recognized OpenStack user group!
Our April presenter will be John Devereaux, also from Rackspace. John will be presenting on OpenStack use cases and diving into some specific examples (see John’s abstract below).
We’re also planning to have a member of the VDM team present on how they’re using OpenStack.
Finally, a huge thanks to Rackspace, the sponsor of our April meetup!
Presentation Abstract:
OpenStack was designed to be a flexible Cloud Service allowing you to have your own Amazon Web Services in-house and to be able to change it to meet your business criteria. OpenStack has evolved quickly due to consumer and market demands to provide the services that growing companies need but also to address areas of:
-
Protection of data by having it in-house where you can control the physical access the systems while having the agility and features like AWS - Have the flexibility in going Hybrid – where you have intellectual property in-house while having static content in another site publicly
-
Adopting cloud – how you need to change the way you do business when moving to OpenStack.
Some OpenStack Use Cases:
-
Discuss how an eCommerce Company leveraging OpenStack and hosting services to reduce costs but aligned human capital that benefited them. - Discuss how a publishing company leveraged OpenStack to lower costs by offsetting responsibilities while focusing human capital on development of upcoming projects. Also, using best practices on a proper deployment of OpenStack to ensure a proper foundation to go forward in executing their business criteria.
-
Talk about Multi Cloud and Hybrid Clouds – why are they gaining popularity and what benefits are customers gaining?
