In the world of OpenStreetMap (OSM), a mapping party is a social event where a group of mappers come together to map particular geographical area. Mapping may be done through uploading GPS traces or by tracing over satellite imagery in a web browser-based editor. A typical session consists of pre-selecting an area/assets to map. So, please join me, and many others, who would like to meet new mappers, collaborate, share, and learn.

Due to personal interest in the project/region, I will continue (http://datameet.org/2015/01/15/geoblr-in-2015-mapping-unmapped-places/) mapping cities and towns involved in/around the DMIC project sites. Please map places you are most most interested in.

The mapping parties will be hosted as a part of an independent research project initiated at theInternational Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIITB) (http://www.iiitb.ac.in/programs.php?pid=Master-of-science-digital-society), which aims to study the mapping practices of mappers in the OSM community. For more information on the research, please email me at tejas.pande(at)iiitb(dot)org
