Guest speaker Johan Janssen will kick off, talking about why and how to upgrade to Java 17, sharing challenges, tips and concrete examples. Next, Kevin Berendsen will share his experiences with using Tekton CI/CD to leverage your existing Kubernetes cluster to build, test and deploy your applications.

Both talks will be presented in English. RSVP now for an evening of learning and fun!

The meetup will be at the OpenValue office in Utrecht (directions: https://route.openvalue.eu), enough free parking spaces available.

First talk: "Why and How to Upgrade to Java 17" by Johan Janssen
Java upgrades are sometimes seen as difficult and many applications are still running on an older version of Java. This session describes Java's current six months release process and why applications should use a recent Java version. After that, I'll explain the challenges of upgrading and provide some useful tips to make the process easier.
Concrete examples (including solutions) will be used to show you how to upgrade your application to Java 17.

About Johan
Johan Janssen is working as an architect at ASML. He has been working for various demanding companies where rapidly delivering high-quality software was very important. Johan regularly writes articles for InfoQ and Java magazines, mainly around Java. He spoke in 20 countries at more than 40 different conferences such as JavaOne, GOTO, Devoxx, JavaZone, J-Fall, J-Spring, Jfokus and JavaLand. Johan received the JavaOne Rock Star and Oracle Code One Star awards.

Second talk: "Tekton CI/CD, to build more and to maintain less" by Kevin Berendsen
Tekton CI/CD is all about leveraging your existing Kubernetes cluster to build, test and deploy your applications and uses the same syntax as you're used to when creating resources on Kubernetes using YAML. No more maintaining your own Jenkins servers and all about creating pipelines.

About Kevin
Kevin Berensen is a software engineer at OpenValue and an expert group member of JSR-381 (a standardization for visual recognition in Java).
