OpenStack Boston Meetup Nov - SDN, Neutron and Dragonflow

Details
Hello all - here is an overview of our Nov. session - Pino de Candia Software Architect at Huawei will be joining us. Trust me, this session will be a good one! We have had the pleasure of having Pino present to the Austin, TX OpenStack Meetup!
NOTE: New Location: we will meetup at the Pivotal offices, located at 255 Main St., 6th FL, Cambridge, MA, 02142, USA.
So come on out and Meetup and learn about Dragonflow, a light-weight, distributed network controller written in Python. Dragonflow development started in early 2015 and we now have a resilient, scalable (tested at over 4k compute nodes), and feature-rich SDN solution that simplifies network operations and gives choice and control back to operators.
In fact, one of Dragonflow’s core tenets is to give operators freedom to choose what’s best for their use-case: 1) do you want an overlay, vlans, or flat networking? You can have one or all of them in the same deployment. 2) Choose your familiar and trusted scalable database among Etcd, Redis, Zookeeper, and several more. 3) And choose among several publish-subscribe options, no need to operate yet another dependency. We hope to eventually have a choice of data plane technology as well (today we're based on Open vSwitch).
We wrote Dragonflow in Python because the reality of cloud is that operators have to get their hands dirty. Dragonflow’s code base is small and easy to read. Each feature is implemented as a separate module that can add or modify a packet pipeline table and even process traffic. It’s easy to add features without forking or waiting for upstream, which gives you freedom to experiment or solve your business problems on your own schedule.
In this talk I’ll cover the basics of Dragonflow’s design, and I’ll deep dive on a few of its many cool features. For example, I’ll explain how Dragonflow distributes all the functionality of Neutron’s network nodes, so you don’t have to baby-sit another cluster of “pets”. I’ll also talk about the latest features in the Pike release, why they matter, and what we’re working on next. And I’ll put all that in the context of where the industry is going and where SDN solutions need to be to satisfy industry requirements.
Pino is a Software Architect at Huawei's Tel Aviv Research Center (but based in New Orleans). Prior to Huawei, Pino was the CTO of Midokura.
