What we're about

This is a get up and get started group so jump right in. At present we are mostly a group for Monday through Friday during day time hours. Need a few day time pals, maybe a lunch date, someone to go to a Matinee with? Just pure simple friendship and support right where you are. No perfection required. Then on a different day perhaps just lunch somewhere to chit chat. Want a bit more exercise try a River Walk off Kingsley and River Road in Orange Park, this walk is designed to expand our walking as we get more fit. The River Walk can be just shy of 3 miles for the willing, or turn around anywhere along the way. Typically someone else only feels like a one or two mile walk that day. The River Walks are every Monday, Wed, and Friday at 9 am. It is a mid-paced walk--- not a power walk but not slow either. We also are currently hosting a monthly luncheon at different restaurants around town as well as a monthly day at Sharon's which always includes a sit down pot luck and an event. The events so far have been a swim party and painting classes. In the future we intend to move on to other crafts but right now we are kind of stuck on painting with maybe a little drinking thrown in if you're so inclined.

We have had other hosted events by our members that have not yet become regular events but we've done them multiple times such as popcorn and movies hosted by Pat, Dog walk Saturday's hosted by Nancy as well as Bike Riding hosted by Susan. We encourage diversity but no selling of products or services.

There are many other groups but none that we see that combine both fitness and socializing. There are groups that socialize in the evenings and this group will not target what is already out there. The members will determine which events are created for the group. A short walk then social time was the beginning basis indoors at the Orange Park Mall and very public for meeting up to start out. However, this walk died out from lack of regular participation. If you want to host this event on a regular basis we are open to trying it again. This meet-up group belongs to all donating members (donations are strictly used to pay Meet-up fees and are due June and December). Try us first for free, if you like the group, please chip in so that the same four or five people don't have to pay for everyone, it's just not right. We ask that you donate $5 per six months. If we ever receive enough money to pay a years worth of dues we will stop collecting. It hasn't happened yet, we have yet to collect six months in advance without the organizer having to pay way more than her fair share. The rest is up to us. Outings will be planned as donating individuals are willing to step up and host. Haven't quite found your thing--- then ask or make a suggestion we can always put it out there someone might be interested. We always welcome messages for this group. The hardest part for many of us is getting out the door to get started. This group has made it easier and more joyful to be a bit more active for many of us and many personal friendships have been made. We encourage this. It's delightful to see people form deep bonds over walking and talking. Sometimes you just find people you click with. We hope you find your niche where ever it may be. Age, weight, size, race.... it doesn't matter just be you. ***Always check before you attend a Meetup to be sure it has not been cancelled. If you do not see walkers rsvping then no-one has opted to attend. We are going to leave up regular walks for anyone who wishes to attend. Note most of us do better with regular attendance. Our connections and communications come through the group posting and messages. Sometimes life reaches out and grabs us. We try to be consistent. *****Inactive members will be removed. You can always rejoin. Twice a year donations are requested to help pay for the hosting of this group. The cost for 50 members is 60.00 for six months and 120.00 for 12 months.
