Organic Growers School is the premiere provider of practical and affordable organic education in the Southern Appalachians, building a vibrant food & farming community by boosting the success of organic home growers and farmers in our region. A 501c3 non-profit, we are based in Asheville, NC, and have been serving our region since 1993. Our hands-on training, workshops, conferences and partnerships inspire, educate, and support people to farm, garden, and live organically.

Organic Growers School serves adult growers of all races, ethnicities, and income levels in the Southern Appalachian community with a regional focus on the 22 Western NC counties.

OGS serves growers of all scales, sizes, and production methods. Our programs focus on a holistic view of organic growing and highlight successful practices that thrive in our mountain region, which means systems that are resilient enough to function in different microclimates, generally function at a smaller scales, employ sustainable techniques, and incorporate forest products.

Our goals:

•We want more farmers on the land using organic practices and a system in which family farms can flourish.
•We want a garden, an orchard, and chickens in every yard.
•We want the average person to populate their daily lives with home-grown food.
•We want healthy, informed, and engaged consumers choosing local and organic food.
•We want a democratic, equitable, and resilient food system.

In short, we want to reclaim agriculture.

We believe this reclamation will transform the health crisis, create strengthened communities, reclaim food sovereignty (the eaters make the decisions about the food life cycle), and prepare for climate resilience.

In order to get there we must inspire, encourage, educate, and support the average person to grow food. We know that the small scale grower is the sustainable grower, which means planting a variety of crops, without chemicals, and eating fresh where the food is produced.

28th Annual Spring Conference

The Spring Conference is a one-of-a-kind event that offers workshops on organic growing and sustainable living. Our mission is to provide down-to-earth, practical advice while remaining affordable and accessible. This year we are going virtual and the conference will be accessible to more people than ever before! Run in three segments, the virtual conference takes place over the week of March 13, 2021, starting with a Live Kick-Off Event on March 13th, followed by the release of themed Track Sessions March 14th-19th, and ending with live Q & A Speaker Panels on March 20th & 21st. Cuba Agroecology Tour

Organic Growers School in partnership with Food First is offering a nine-day tour of Cuba with a focus on the country's intensive sustainable agriculture practices. The tour will show you the country's dramatic transition into agroecological and organic farming practices and the institutions that made this shift possible. We will see firsthand what happens when national policy prioritizes organic farming and remediating hunger. Learn more on the website.
