What we're about

This is the Original Ottawa Travel Meetup Group for travel enthusiasts. We meet once a month to share our own travel stories, tips, questions and play travel trivia. After 236 past meetups over almost 10 years we have relaunched our group Meetup site to accommodate a virtual format.

An annual fee of $15 gets you attendance at our monthly meetings for fun travel trivia, one or two 30-40 minute member presentations on a recent trip they have done, a chance to share your travel tips, questions and maybe even find others to travel with.

The most important thing to know about our members is that we are an open and fun all ages group. Come and know that you'll be welcomed, whether you are a seasoned traveler or are just getting started. You'll find friendly people that are interested in your travel stories and will share their experiences , as well as tips with you.

While we occasionally post Meetups about local cultural events like embassy functions, cultural festivals and member led trips, we don't post travel sales events such as when a river cruise company comes to town on a sales tour.

We hope to see you soon!

The Ottawa Travel Meetup Monthly Meetup - Morocco and San Miguel de Allende

Our February meeting is scheduled for the 15th February at 7pm on the Zoom channel and will start with some travel-based trivia delivered by myself. Get your thinking caps on for this one. With the hope that this pandemic is abating (albeit slowly) all the questions will all focus on the fun places in the world to visit on our future trips.
Following the trivia, Susan will take the stage and tell us about her trip around Morocco. Starting in Casablanca (with Rick’s café as well?), a visit to the desert and heading towards the sunshine of Essaouira. Sounds like a great alternative to the Ottawa snow.
Next comes Natalia to tell us about her time in San Miguel de Allende. This city is a cultural centre in Mexico, known for its art and literature. Natalia spent some time there and will outline just what the place has to offer.
We have already a couple of good presentations lined up for March but that’s not to say our schedule is full: we have spaces from April onward for trip reports or personal reflection on places visited. Any length from 10 minutes to 40, with or without slides - just your experiences. Worried about the powerpoint / zooming bit? No problem, we can help out if you are new to presentations. Just let me know.
After the success of previous pot-luck / mini presentation evenings we’re looking at another one in May. Just short presentations – less than 8 slides and/or 10 to 15 minutes long. Let me know who has some ideas to talk about.
How do you get the link for this on-line meeting?
Paid-up club members will automatically receive the zoom link 2 days before the event – no need to register. To become a member though there is a 15$ annual fee. Payment may be by e-transfer to Ken Church (send it to Ken Church at [masked] or message me through meetup) with your home email or by cheque to Ken Church, mailed to 530 Neighbourhood Way, Ottawa, Ontario, K1G 0J2. As before, first timers or guests are always welcome – it’s free for the first visit but still send me your email (the meetup networking system often screws up email addresses so I prefer to use “regular” email networks)
Ok, hear from you soon.

The Ottawa Travel Meetup - "Open mike" pot-luck / mini-presentation night

After the success of previous pot-luck / mini presentation evenings we’re looking at another one.
Short presentations are what we need – less than 8 slides and/or 10 to 15 minutes long. Any subject related to travel – places, experiences, street food, books, people, activities, etc, etc. You know the drill. Let me (Ken at [masked]) know if you have some ideas to talk about.
How do you get to attend this on-line spring film show extravaganza?
