ONLINE: Philosophy & Learning, "The Three Petals"
Details
StoicDan and Dr. Candace Thompson are giving a new talk this Sunday morning, entitled "Philosophy & Learning: The Three Petals". The groups attending will be Plato's Cave, UU Inquiring Minds, and Orlando Stoics.
This is a one-time lecture.
Following the last presentation on philosophy and its mysteries (unsolved questions), this Sunday we will explore philosophy and the learning process. It's called "The Three Petals" and includes ideas from Shoshin, Stoicism and Psychology. This will be a fascinating discussion on how philosophy can speed up our learning process, and we can become more youthful and flexible in our thinking. For example, the Zen Buddhist idea of Shoshin helps us adopt a "beginner's mind". By not feeling that we're an expert (on any topic), therefore we can accept new ideas and can be nimble in learning.
We will also cover Stoicism (a lived philosophy), which teaches us to "think outside the box" and to withhold judgement when things go wrong. In turn, we will link these ideas to concepts in Psychology, such as intellectual humility and a sense of agency. We hope you'll read the following material and bring a friend to the discussion. Hope to see you there!

Like Orlando Stoics, this group enjoys open-minded, respectful conversations. If we differ in our opinions, then "we agree to disagree". The long-term goal is to improve our minds via group discussions.
This meeting is free and open to the public.
