WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

TITLE: Art of the Possible - Using Data Science & AI to Advance Positive Social Impact

Accessing data and computing power has never been easier - and the potential to use data to become "just a little bit better" is tantalizing. Unfortunately, gains from using data science techniques are often out of reach for most social impact organizations. DataKind aims to change that - as a global nonprofit focused on using data science in the service of humanity, we’re philanthropy-funded to provide pro bono data science services to social impact organizations. This talk will focus on problem development, execution, and impact for two different case studies, with the intent of demonstrating the “art of the possible” for social impact organizations at different data maturity levels - through work on using geospatial approaches to help mitigate housing insecurity and using social listening and natural language processing techniques to combat vaccine hesitancy.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Caitlin is responsible for delivering DataKind's core offerings, ensuring that high quality, impactful data science interventions are created in partnership with social sector leaders. Prior to DataKind, Caitlin worked as a research scientist at a digital education company and as an engineering professor at NYU. A lifelong volunteer, she's engaged with Central Florida's nonprofit community and the organizer of the Orlando Lady Developers Meetup. Caitlin holds a BSIE and a PhD from the University of Miami.
