This is an article Bryan wrote about Takatori Castle on a "Travel Japan" site: https://en.japantravel.com/nara/takatori-castle-ruins-in-nara/25323

Takatori Castle was the largest mountain top castle Japan ever built, stretching 3 kilometers from outermost gate to the central tower foundations. It was constructed in 1332 and played important roles in multiple revolts and battles throughout its life before being abandoned in 1873.

We will also visit Tsubosakadera: the Temple of Eye Health on our return from Takatori Castle. This temple was founded because of a miracle in the 8th century and features a beautiful mix of historic and traditional Japanese buildings and Indian sculpture and imagery. The latter works were given to the temple because of its assistance in India’s struggle against leprosy.
