Kuragari Toge: The Pass into Darkness

For over 1,000 years Osaka and Nara have been connected by the Nara-kaido Road over the shoulder of Mt. Ikoma via Kuragari Toge (The Pass into Darkness).

This historic path winds its way through rustic farmland and peaceful stretches of forest and montane wetland before reaching the peak of Kuragari Toge, and then traversing the face of Mt. Ikoma. Viewing decks with expansive views of Osaka City, and quaint and historical shrines and temples dot the route.

We will also make a stop at the Lucky Garden Cafe and Restaurant for your choice of food, drinks, dessert.

There we will also feed and play with their goats and sheep.

Participation fee: ¥1,500

Train fare: ¥1,060

Please bring shoes that are comfortable and appropriate for hiking, warm clothes and plenty of water. You may also bring your own lunch or purchase food at Lucky Garden.

THE PLAN
11:00-11:15 assemble at Kintetsu Osaka-Namba

11:15-11:20 move to the platform

11:22 sub semi express for Yamato Saidaiji

11:45-12:00 get off train at Hiraoka Station, use vending machines and toilet

12:00-1:30 hike over Kuragari Toge to Lucky Garden

1:30-2:15 lunch and play with the animals at Lucky Garden

2:15-3 hike to Hozanji

3-3:30 explore Hozanji

4:00-4:05 cable car down to Ikoma Station

4:12 Kintetsu Express for Osaka Namba
