• 2020 - End of Year "Virtual" Party

    Online event

    Season's greetings

Hope all of you are safe and healthy.

We would like to organise our End of Year "Virtual" party on Thursday 31st December to celebrate the passing of this dreadful year of 2020. As the world is mostly on lock down, this year we have only managed to organise a few Outdoor meetups. This will be our first online virtual meetup.

Please prepare yourself some good food, champagne, beer, sake or any alcoholic drinks to join us at our first Virtual meetup End of Year party event. We look forward to seeing you and hope that we join us safely from your home. Families are welcome.

Although this is an Osaka event, you can join us wherever you are especially for some of our members who have gone on to do other exciting things around the world. Please note that the time is in JST.

This virtual meetup uses Spaital Chat application. You don't need to install any software, just use a browser and let it access your web cam and microphone. (*note: it seems to work ok with my iPhone but not on my old iPad. )

  • Outdoor Meetup November

Tsurumi Ryokuchi park large lawn area

Welcome back web developers and designers!

We would like to continuing our outdoor gatherings at Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park on Saturday 21st November, weather and Covid19 social distancing permitting. It is a bit of a short notice but hope that you will be available to participate.

This month we are also teaming up with Sakura Internet's Sakura Club. We will be joined by their Japanese members via Zoom (using our smartphones)! We have been trying to work out a joint event for sometime but due to the Covid19, we weren't able to do that until now.

Ben Murden will kick things off with a quick talk about React Native and it will be joint by Sakura Club via Zoom. After that Fukui-san from Sakura Club will give a quick talk of "Building a community of English and Japanese IT developers" via Zoom. We shall try to interpret the talks in Japanese and English.

You don't need to join the Zoom session but if you are interested, we will let you know the Zoom links on the day.

Please bring a picnic mat to sit on and your own food and drinks. Families are welcome. There is also a Lawson close to the station where you can pick up food and drinks on the way.

Meeting point: at the gate of the Tsurumi-ryokuchi Station on the Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi line.

The forecast is pretty uncertain, so we'll update this page if it looks like we'll have to postpone until the following month. We'll also send out a notification via e-mail if things change, so remember to sign up if you're thinking of coming!

If you are late, please check back on this web page for the exact location. We shall update when we settle on a spot.

    * We shall ask the participant for a donation (¥100~500) to cover our cost.

Welcome back web developers and designers!

We would like to continuing our outdoor gatherings at Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park on Saturday 26th of September, weather and Covid19 social distancing permitting.

We'd like to keep the floor (lawn?) open this month and hear about projects you're working on, or cool things you've seen that you think will be of interest to other web folk. We know it's tough to go first, so Christian Oliff will kick things off with a quick talk about some new features in Safari 14 that might be of interest, and web developers should consider.

Please bring a picnic mat to sit on and your own food and drinks. Families are welcome. There is also a Lawson close to the station where you can pick up food and drinks on the way.

  • Outdoor Welcome Back Meetup

Tsurumi Ryokuchi park large lawn area

Welcome back web developers and designers!

We're hoping to resume our meetup in a safe manner by holding an outdoor gathering (a picnic!) at Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park on Saturday 27th of June, weather permitting.

We intend to keep the format open and have more discussions than one-sided talks, but to kick things off Benjamin Murden will discuss his journey into the JAMStack - a means of building sites that can be deployed to the edge, so they can be served from fast CDNs.

Please bring a mat to sit on and your own food and drinks. Families are welcome.

Meeting point: at the gate of the Tsurumi-ryokuchi Station on the Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi line.

Weather forecast is sunny 28C/83F, 10% chance of rain. Please make sure you have plenty of water, suntan lotion or sunscreen.

There is a convenient store Lawson close to the station. You can get food and drinks there.

If you are late, please check back on this web page for the exact location. We shall update it tomorrow.

  • 2019 HN Kansai & OWDDM End of Year Dinner

    Galleria Pizza

    ¥3,500

    Hi Everyone!

We hope all of you have a great year. As we are reaching the final month of the year, we plan to get together for a year-end party along with the folks from HNKansai just like last year (... and the year before), at the very same place!

We will meet on Saturday 14th of December from 6pm (originally starting time was 7pm but we have now moved it to 6pm instead) at Galleria, a very nice pizzeria with a lot of space for people to talk and drink together 🙂 It is located just near Osaka Umeda so easily reachable from all major train lines.

The restaurant has changed their menu (3,500 JPY per person and you can drink as much as you want). As we have planned to rent out the place, the minimum party is 30 people, so please book in advance and let us know asap if you cannot attend.

Please register your attendance in HN Kansai meetup, here is the link:
    https://www.meetup.com/Hacker-News-Kansai/events/266838294/

We look forward to seeing all of your at the party.

For those who cannot attend the year-end party, we wish you a happy holiday and a prosperous & healthy New Year.
