OSEG Movie Night: "Skjelvet" film screening followed by public podium discussion
OSEG invites to a public screening of the film "Skjelvet" followed by a podium discussion with filmmakers, geoscientists and disaster preparedness experts. How to attend: Please follow the link below to the ticket portal of Cinemateket and purchase your ticket (80 NOK) directly. Info: In 1904, an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 hit the Oslo area and caused widespread panic, although no major damage. The makers of the 2015 film “Bølgen” took onto this subject and created “Skjelvet”, a film about a disastrous earthquake to hit nowadays Oslo. The film is due to be released on[masked]. While smaller earthquakes are regularly felt in parts of Norway (for example in eastern Oslo and Bergen in 2017), no larger earthquake has hit any populated area in Norway in at least 30 years. How realistic is therefore the scenario of a major earthquake in Oslo? Must we indeed expect “the big one” to hit the Norwegian capital in the near future? Could the 1904 event repeat, and how vulnerable would the Oslo region be nowadays? To discuss these questions, we invite to a public screening of the freshly released film, followed by a public podium discussion with the filmmakers, actors and local geoscience and disaster preparedness experts. Agenda: The event starts at 18:00 precisely 1.) Welcome & short introduction to the event (by OSEG) Introducing the guests 2.) Introduction to the movie (by the filmmakers) 3.) Movie screening 4.) Podium discussion including Q&A 5.) Drinks and socializing NOTE: We have reserved about 70 tickets for OSEG members until 6th July 2018.
