What we’re about

This group is for people interested in exploring how we can use data for social, environmental, civic and economic benefit.

Our Data includes, but is not limited to open data.

The Our Data Bristol initiative is bringing focus to the open data platform and programme of engagement opportunities coordinated by Bristol City Council’s City Innovation Team, with contributing partner organisations and the data community.

The project is aligned with the Council’s aims and objectives and will support the One City approach framework. The project has been designed to create opportunities for people to share insights into specific challenges and opportunities, build our data asset base and develop knowledge, skills and products.

From October to December 2018, ‘Well Connected’ (Bristol City Council Corporate Strategic Goal) will be used as the thematic banner for a series of data focused events. The ‘Transport & Connectivity’ and ‘Homes & Communities’ regional strategic boards have been invited to help identify challenges to be addressed at these events.

Following a thematic launch event on the 3rd of October, there will be 2 high profile events delivered as part of the BBC Digital Bristol Week:
A two day hackathon will be held on 24th and 25th November. Targeted at university students, local developers and citizen data scientists. The hackathon will use the open data platform and Bristol API as key resources and create an opportunity for people to learn skills and build things. Outputs may include prototypes that serve regional Transport & Connectivity and Homes & Communities through use of apps, blockchain, AI, chatbots, policy development, community informatics, etc. (*See appendix for further event detail)

Our Data Projects commissioning event on the 28th of October This public event will have targeted invites to local commissioners, investors, hackathon project groups and tech organisations. Interested participants will be giving the opportunity to pitch for at least 3 x mini project awards of £1.5k. These winners will be given a 4 week period to create a technical solution that supports issues raised by the theme’s strategic board. Local investors will be invited to consider funding the projects, with no required commitment.
