What we're about

Hello Minnesotans who reside in Ramsey and Washington Counties. Our geographically based chapter of Our Revolution meets in person periodically in a large meeting room inside the Rondo Community Library located at 461 Dale Street North, Saint Paul, MN 55104. The library is on the corner of Dale Street North and University Avenue West in our capital city of Saint Paul. The Meet Up page is incorrect. We were founded very recently in the spring of 2017 and will start having regular general membership meetings beginning in March of 2018.

There is an underground off-street parking lot under the library with the parking entrance off of University Avenue.

The library is also located on the Green Line of the Light Rail.

University and Dale are also serviced by several buses.

One may ride a bike and place it on the front of some city buses and also take it onboard the Light Rail train as a means of getting to our meetings.

This Greater Saint Paul Our Revolution chapter was formed to continue the Sanders' inspired movement to promote progressive social, economic, racial & environmental justice through public policy advocacy & political reform.

A quote from Bernie Sanders:

"Election days come and go. But the struggle of the people to create a government which represents all of us and not just the one percent - a government based on the principles of economic, social, racial and environmental justice - that struggle continues."

We are nonpartisan and yet members often choose to be involved in their local caucuses and the local conventions, whatever their affiliations, as an important means to encourage progressives to run for offices and to be elected into our local and statewide political offices and seats.

We work together to promote progressive bills and reforms that have important ramifications on people's lives.

We have fun. We sharpen one another's knowledge about issues. We are inspiring one another during some of our nation's darkest days.

We are continually learning about what is happening politically, both locally and nationally.

We communicate with one another about social actions, marches and protests. We pass information onto one another. At times we partner with other Our Revolution groups. We also work with other social and political action organizations regarding promoting public policy reform.

Our greater Saint Paul area is a rich community of diversity. We are a rich community of people from all walks of life. We believe that when we work together, we will be stronger and we can make change happen. If now is not the time to unite our efforts, then when?

Please join us.

Come out and get involved. Once you start participating you are considered a member. We call our meetings, General Membership Meetings. Also, our board and committees are open to general membership attendance.

"Democratic socialism means that we must reform a political system that is corrupt, that we must create an economy that works for all, not just the very wealthy." How do you and I do this? By struggling together over the important local and national issues. By getting the most progressive representation in offices.

Please come join us. Welcome.

Our very first General Membership Meeting for Our Revolution Greater Saint Paul was held at Rondo Community Library on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

The purpose of the first two meetings, held at Rondo, was to begin to form a Greater Saint Paul Chapter of the national Our Revolution organization. Note: We are officially recognized by the national organization.

After the spring of 2017, several of our Greater Saint Paul members began serving on a statewide board for Our Revolution MN as a means of building awareness of the needs of our entire state. Note: In the state of Minnesota there are now several chapters of Our Revolution serving different geographical areas.

Our Revolution Greater Saint Paul is one of the chapters that now exist in Minnesota. Progressives involved in Our Revolution are growing a statewide presence. The following first link is to the national organization: https://ourrevolution.com/

Here are some links on FaceBook for Our Revolution Greater Saint Paul. The chapter's title on FaceBook has MN added to it partially due to there being other cities on giant FB named Saint Paul.

Some History

Our first meeting's agenda of Our Revolution Greater Saint Paul was:

1. To introduced Our Revolution to a filled to capacity room of progressives. We were successful because more than eighty individuals filled the room.

2. To discussion the St Paul Mayoral race. This took place with a bit of excitement as several of the candidates showed up in person to a crowd filled first meeting.

3.) We discussed how to proceed. It was decided that at the NEXT general membership meeting to be held that the candidates interested in an endorsement from Our Revolution would be present to speak to general members in attendance and we would proceed with ranked choice voting by membership vote. Members were encouraged to become delegates. There were members who supported different DFL candidates and the Green party candidate.

Note: Our chapter began with a flurry at a time when, in retrospect, we could have used a lot more time for preparing to launch our local Our Revolution chapter. The fact we began during an important mayor election may have reduced the understanding of those in attendance that it is necessary for our chapter to build and grow a body of individuals as general members.

4) There was a brief discussion of the three School Board races in our geographical area at the spring meetings. General members were encouraged to become involved in the local process.

5). We focused at that time on an organizational plan for the Saint Paul DFL caucuses on April 22, 23, 29 & 30; leading to the City Convention June 17th.

6.) At the very first general membership meeting held on March 23, 2017 we also elected a Greater Saint Paul Our Revolution leadership team, called the board. We meet to plan our monthly membership meetings.

7.) We encouraged all progressives in attendance, whether or not they were past supporters of Bernie Sanders or not, who live in Ramsey or Washington County to join our efforts as general members of Our Revolution Greater Saint Paul.

Note: The above is a brief summary of what took place in 2017. Our hopes are to now grow our chapter and make progressive change in our geographical area and statewide going forward through 2018, 2019 and into the presidential election season of 2020. Let's build our strength.
