What we're about
Welcome to the Outdoor Adventure Group of East Texas!
The Outdoor Adventure Group of East Texas started in 1995 by Judy Holmes after she moved to Tyler from Houston. She was searching for like minded people to join her on camping trips. Our membership includes an eclectic group of singles, couples and families of all ages. Our purpose is to create opportunities for our members to get outdoors. Activities include camping, hiking, biking, backpacking, paddling, star gazing and dutch oven cooking.
We meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month. Our meetings include guest speakers, trip announcements and club business. Our members often offer to serve as guest speakers and share pictures and stories of recent trips. After our business concludes, several of us go out to eat dinner.
Because our trips and events are planned by our members, we get to explore new places each year. During the Spring and Fall we usually offer at least one camping trip per month. Our calendar evolves and changes as new events and new members are brought to the group. Any member can bring an idea or event to the group. Want to learn how to do something? We can schedule speakers or events to help our members learn new skills.
We currently charge $10.00 per year per adult for individual memberships for each calendar year. We invite you to be our guest of our Meetup group - without charge - for a three-month trial period. Please use that time to go on outings and meet some of our members. You are welcome to become a member at any time. At the end of the three-month trial period, we will send a reminder email about becoming a member. If you choose not to become a dues paying member, your access will end.
The fees are collected annually to pay the club costs of maintaining the Meetup site, club expenses and main dish/food for both the 4th of July party and Christmas party. Our membership is the same as the calendar year, January through December. New members may join any time of the year at the same rate. (Dues paid after September 1 will cover the next year's membership, as well.)
There is no age limit. Our group ranges from 20 and up. We encourage families to join and participate in our events. Please check with the event organizer to confirm if the event is kid friendly.
How to pay your dues
We'll need you to provide some basic information when paying your dues. If your meetup name is simply a first name, like Diane, we'll need to know which Diane you are. The easiest way to tell us who you are is to look at your profile under settings and include your member number.
You have two options to pay club dues:
1. Bring cash or check to a meeting or event or mail a check payable to the Outdoor Adventure Group of ETX. (Make sure you include your name/membership number and an email address in case we need to contact you). The mailing address is Outdoor Adventure Group c/o Kavanaugh, PO Box 132200, Tyler TX 75713-2200
2. Pay via Paypal. Select send/receive and opt for "Send money to family and friends". Our email address for Paypal is firstname.lastname@example.org. Under notes, please include your name and membership number.
Once your dues are paid, you'll see (Member 2018) next to your name.
