Bass River State Forest has over 23 miles of marked trails. The trails vary in length from .04 to 4 miles and contains a segment of the Batona Trail.

The Civilian Conservation Corps was established at Bass River and lasted on the parkland from 1933 to 1942.The CCC boys planted trees, built camping structures, picnic pavilions and roads that are still in use today.

Most of the trails start at the south end of the day-use parking area near the beach. We begin on the orange(CCC trail) continue on the green(Nisky trail) and then on Joe's Trail ,the scenic trail that follows the southern shores of Lake Absegami. We will have lunch at the end of Joe's Trail, where there are picnic tables..After lunch we begin on Joe's Trail to the purple (Falkinburg trail)continue on the yellow(Poppy Allen trail) back to the cars. The distance is 11-12 miles. There are many opportunities for easy outs and you can choose your distance.

There are restrooms at the Forest Office when you first enter the park. There is a porta-potty at lunch spot.hike begins at the south end parking lot near the beach. Please dress for the weather.Bring water, lunch and snacks.Any questions contact Al DiCianni email asilviod888@yahoo.com 732 569-6858( home) or( cell) day of hike only 848 226-8132.Gail Hammell will be the co-leader.
