This group is for anyone looking to meet people for ongoing hikes or if you are not familiar with the area and would like to explore with someone. Anyone with an interest in hiking is welcome regardless of skill level and background. One-timers are welcome just as well, so don't be shy if you are visiting and would like to see the trails in San Diego. Just be sure to read the details because trails vary in difficulty level, and the pace will be faster in some hikes than others. Please be sure that you feel comfortable hiking under the conditions posted.

Black Mountain( Rancho Penasquitos): Little Blk Loop/ Manzanita Loop

Meet at 5:45 and start hiking at 5:50 PM Hike is cross posted with SDOE This is a conditioning hike Distance: 5.2 miles Elevation gain: 850 ft Difficulty: Intermediate Duration: 2+ hrs Facilities: Bathroom and water at the park Fees/ Permits: No Dogs on a leash are allowed There are over 20 miles of scenic hiking trails at Black Mountain Open Space Park. Expect to be hiking mostly on a dirt road and some rocky sections. We will spend 5-10 minutes break at the summit.There are several ways to reach Black Mountain summit in the Rancho penas quitos/ Mt. Caramel area. We will head up to the summit in a more challenging approach. This route has several steep hills which provides an excellent workout. We will start hiking from south slope trail( Nighthawk Trail), to Little Black Loop then to Manzanita Loop before hiking up to the tower crowned summit. Expect to be hiking mostly on a dirt road and some rocky sections. We will sharing the trail with bikers so please be alert at all times to avoid injuries. We will descend via Nighthawk Trail back to the park. What to bring: water, hiking boots, trekking poles( if you use them), snacks Everyone is welcome to join us for a post hike get together. Bring your favorite snack and /or beverage to share. The park is located on a hill, so it offers great views with plenty of parking spaces. Directions: From I-15,take 56 West to the Black Mountain Road exit. Go north on Black Mountain Road approximately 1 mile and turn right on Oviedo Street. Continue on Oviedo Street for approximately.2 miles, then turn right onto Oviedo Way. Follow Oviedo way to the end(.6 miles) to Hilltop Community park No Shows will be frowned upon. FREE Fitness brisk MBay Walk 5.4 miles- Every Wednesday eve Get OUT and Active!

Come exercise your body as well as unwind your mind on this early 5.4 mile social fast walk along beautiful Mission Bay. Most everyone has great fun on these fast walks and cam make friendships there over time. We had several requests for more of these Wednesday fast walks so now they are every Wednesday evening at 5:30 now with the recent time change. We start from the MBay Visitor's Center off Highway 5 just at the Southwest end of Clairemont Dr crossing over I5. Meet @South side of building by blue Bell on pole. Come away from that TV and your easy chair, come out stretch those legs in the fresh evening air? Usually some friendly fast walkers from other local groups accompany us there... Most people will go the total 5.4 mile brisk walk to South Shores and back. We may see a nice sunset along the way, very enjoyable sharing that stimulating exercise /visual experience with our lively social camaraderie and maybe some light improv as well. Have any jokes to share? Dress appropriate for the weather/temperature (any rain cancels) and wear very comfortable walking shoes. Bring a smile, bottle of water, snacks, maybe a joke ( I need some new material ). Meet on the south side of the Visitor's Center building BY 5:30pm. We start walking South soon after so you may have to run to catch up if you are late.

Jacumba-Smuggler's Den,Elliot Mine,Valley of the Moon,and Blue Angels Peak

We will hike up to Smuggler's Den,Elliot Mine,and Blue Angels Peak,at a minimum.There is a lot to see,in that area,and we will explore anything that looks interesting,as much as your stamina allows.Figure a 9 mile hike,with 1500' ascent.Bring gloves,tweezers,flashlight,and enough water for six hours of hiking.
