What we’re about

Hello, we are a group of people searching for ways to overcome anxiety and depression. We run this group in hopes to provide people with a safe environment where you can come and gain support from some amazing people who understand just what you are going through.

If you are interested in coming to a place where you can find ways to effectively deal with anxiety and depression, then feel free to come by and see what we are about, but if you just want a place to dwell on your misfortune and misery, then unfortunately this will not be the right group for you.

We are not mental health professionals but we are trained in mental health first aid. We are simply individuals who have a passion to help others. We feel that human interaction, discussion and experiential learning are the keys to finding happiness in life.

Overcoming anxiety and depression requires taking action (along with education) and that is our primary goal.

Community Guidelines

• Phones: Please put them on silent or vibrate, they can be disruptive in the middle of someone else’s share. Feel free to return all calls and texts outside the room and out of earshot.

• Washrooms are the last two doors down the hall to the left. Women’s is second last, men's is the last. Feel free to leave the room at anytime, we treat all departures as a bathroom break.

• Confidentiality: We ask that whatever is said in this room stays in this room (unless you plan to hurt yourself or someone else then we have to report it). We find this helps build a sense of trust and community.

• Religion & Politics: These topics can be quite divisive and we instead focus on what brings us together. If these are the source of your anxiety and/or depression you are welcome to talk about it but we remind everyone to stay respectful.

• Professionalism: Although we are not professionals in mental health we are trained in mental health first aid. We also ask any such professionals in the group to attend as a non-professional.

Facilitation: The facilitators are here to guide the conversation, if we find we come across a topic better suited for therapy, such as heavy trauma, we will redirect the conversation.

Zero-Tolerance: Absolutely no hate speech, solicitation, violence, alcohol or drugs. You will be asked to leave if you are aggressive, obviously intoxicated or selling your products or ideas.

Lastly, if you you have any further concerns, questions or ideas feel free to bring them up with any of the facilitators. You can reach us before, during break and after the meeting. As well as through the Meetup page messaging system.
