Upcoming events (5+)

"Songwriters Open Mic" -- since 1996! Acoustic originals--3 songs/set.

This is an acoustic open mic for songwriters, now in its 23rd year. Performers are videotaped (with your OK) and edited for a half-hour public-access tv show broadcast weekly in Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids on cable tv, and the A2 broadcasts are also live-streamed on the internet. The setting is a small performing space attached to a music store. Each performer can play three original, acoustic songs or 15 minutes. Performers are encouraged to talk about their song --- eg how it came to be written, or what you were trying to do musically or lyrically, how it has changed over time, etc; this material is usually included in the edited tv broadcast. The Host is Jim Novak, an Ann Arbor singer-songwriter, and he maintains a Facebook page called "Songwriters Open Mic Ann Arbor," with details about how to watch the tv show and the program schedule / performer listing. There is also a YouTube channel with a collection of older episodes; search YouTube for "songwriters open mic ann arbor"

"Anything Goes / Acoustic Open Stage at Oz's Music"

On the second Tuesday of each month, this is an open mic for COVER SONGS – and your originals too, if you like. Anything goes. Come and do a short set of your favorites, your fascinations, your fooling-around-and-having-fun songs. Play a song that inspired you to write your own song, or one that inspires you now to write your next one. Play a guilty pleasure. Play one by a songwriter you think we should know about. Play one with your own pretty cool ideas for a riff or arrangement, or one where you’d like a little help in figuring things out.
