Details

Welcome to our first meeting in a new city and venue.

Our normal format :

• Doors and intros: 18:00-18:30

• Session 1: 18:30 - 19:20

• Break for Food: 19:20-19:40

• Session 2: 19:40-20:30

And there's always the chance of a visit to a local hostelry afterwards

Session 1:

Asking SQL Server about SQL Server

• Ever stumbled across a database with no Foreign Keys and want to find which columns might be the best bet?• Wanted to check that all columns for PhoneNumber data had the correct data type before a change goes in?

• When was this database last backed up and just where is it in case you need it in a hurry?

• How many indexes are there on this table, and are they all actually being used?

• What new object has Microsoft shipped with this new version of SQL Server?

SQL Server is also keen to know the answers to these questions, so it makes sure it has the data to answer them. With a bit of simple digging you can get the answers as well.

This session will show you how to do that, and show you where you want be looking if you want to start hunting on your own. You'll be able to go back to work on the Friday knowing how to poke around in that 3rd part solution with no documentation and start piecing things together

Me: I've been working with SQL Server since 1999, as DBA, Developer and firefighter with fingers in OLTP, DataWarehouses and Business Intelligence. Also spend a lot of time pulling Data apart looking for patterns and solutions.

Session 2:

AD 2016. 2AM A Disaster just Began.2AM.

• We sleeping well. And our mobile ringing and ringing. Message: DISASTER! In this session (on slides) we are NOT talk about potential disaster (such BCM); we talk about: And what NOW? New version old my old well-known session updated for whole changes which happened in DBA World in last two-three years.

• So, from the ground to the Sky and further - everything for surviving disaster. Which tasks should have been finished BEFORE. Is virtual or physical SQL matter? We talk about systems, databases, peoples, encryption, passwords, certificates and users.

• In this session (on few demos) I'll show which part of our SQL Server Environment are critical and how to be prepared to disaster. In some documents I'll show You how to be BEST prepared.
