Announcing our May meet up - once again at the home of Austin Fraser: Thames Tower, directly next to Reading's train station!

Featuring:

Eleni Fragkiadaki with How to love your code and hack away

A codebase that is loved is, in general, a codebase that you can more easily extend and which allows you to work more on new functionality and less on bug fixing. As part of this presentation we will go through some of the key principles that can make our application more stable and robust regardless of the framework(s) that we are using. We will cover tools and libraries going from low level performance to high level design.

and

Mark Robson with Organic food and organic IT

We all like to give something back to the community. The True Food Coop is a cooperative which sells local and organic food near Reading. We will see what makes this shop unique and explore the challenges of maintaining and developing our IT systems used by volunteers and staff, such as integration with suppliers and fixing recalcitrant thermal printers.

For more information about the True Food Coop, see https://www.truefood.coop/

Parking

There is parking in an NCP carpark on Garrard Street just below the building, but this is very expensive. The venue is a five or ten minute walk from the Oracle car parks, which are much more reasonable, and the train station car park.

----

Building Access

Access to the building requires a swipe card system, we will be outside the building from 18:45 to help get you in and will have others ready to ferry people up.

Call Chris Hoult on 07399 316 450 if you have any trouble gaining access.

----

Food and Drink

Our hosts Austin Fraser have kindly offered to supply food and refreshments. If you have any allergies please let us know ahead of time via email and we will try and accommodate your needs.
