Hey @all,

we like to invite you to our monthly meetup at the trivago tower in Düsseldorf. In October, Jan Steemann and Max Neunhöffer will talk about How to use a modern distributed data store: Hands-on ArangoDB use cases.

About the talkArangoDB (https://www.arangodb.com/) is a distributed multi model database being able to handle key-value, document and graph data using a unified query language. This talk aims to present concrete use cases for ArangoDB including technical details and therefore features two of the core developers, Jan and Max.

First, Jan will give some general advice and best practices on how to make your application scale well with a distributed database and demonstrate some examples of the good, the bad and the ugly use cases.

Towards the end, Max will shed some light on the cluster architecture of ArangoDB and explain where its architecture shines but will also show the limitations of this approach.

All examples will be run on a DC/OS (https://dcos.io/) cluster and Max will also give a short overview about Apache Mesos (https://mesos.apache.org/), the available infrastructure and deployment.

About the speaker

• Jan Steemann: Jan (@steemann (https://twitter.com/steemann)) is a C++ database engineer at ArangoDB and its top committer. He does not have a dog.

• Max Neunhöffer: Max (@neunhoef (https://twitter.com/neunhoef)) is a mathematician turned database developer. In his academic career he has worked for 16 years on the development and implementation of new algorithms in computer algebra. During this time he has juggled a lot with mathematical big data like group orbits containing trillions of points. Recently he has returned from St Andrews to Germany, has shifted his focus to NoSQL databases, and now helps to develop ArangoDB.

Language: English and German

Start is at 7:00pm. This meetup is for free. W-Lan, beer and non alcoholic drinks are available (for free as well!) and we like to see you there :)
