OSM Mapathons for the Phoenix metro are back!

Meet us at the ASU Map and Geospatial Hub in Tempe on Friday, August 2nd from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This time around, we will have 'Dr Kludge' (https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Dr%20Kludge/) teach how to use Java OpenStreetMap Editor (JOSM). JOSM is an advanced, free piece of software that allows you to edit, copy, etc data for OSM. This makes it an incredibily powerful tool, especially for quickly mapping areas with lots of basic, square-like buildings or areas that reuse lots of the same building designs.

We will have wireless access so bring a laptop with a mouse to learn how to contribute to the community by adding content to OpenStreetMap! Let's continue to put PHXGeo on the OSM map! Food will also be provided, via Subway catering platters so please make sure to RSVP if you plan to attend.

In addition to bringing a laptop and mouse, it's highly recommended you download JOSM beforehand. After downloading JOSM, you'll want to download via File > Preferences > (Outlet icon) the following Plugins: building_tools, continuousDownload

You don't have to wait until the event to contribute, Phoenix/Maricopa County project tracking can be found here: https://tasks.openstreetmap.us/contribute?difficulty=ALL&campaign=Maricopa%20County

Have questions about OpenStreetMap? Contact Scott or join the OSM US Slack server where there are plenty of friendly mapping folk that'd be happy to help you learn to contribute: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/List_of_OSM_centric_Slack_workspaces

Feel free to suggest your ideas to help make this seasonally reoccurring event more of something you and others want to go to.
