Papago Park Saguaro Survey III with QField

Details
Join us the morning of March 5th to help extend the Phoenix section of the Papago Park saguaro map and learn about this unique plant population that is central to our community.
When:
9:30 - Arrive early if you would like to use the QField mobile app
10:00 - Park orientation from City of Phoenix park ranger and survey instructions from Veronica
10:30-noon - Data collection
Where:
We will meet in the first parking lot on the way to Hole in the Rock and work on the section of Papago Park located north and west of the Phoenix Zoo.
Mapping platform:
We like to change things up with a different mobile mapping technology each year and this year we will be using the QField mobile app. New functionality (QFieldCloud) was recently released in beta that supports group mapping projects. PHXGeo members have been busy testing the new functionality and we think QField will be a great fit for the saguaro survey.
If mobile maps aren't your style, there are other ways you can participate. Printed maps will be provided for a low-tech mapping alternative and teams can be formed to pair saguaro enthusiasts with mapping enthusiasts.
How to access the QField app:
If you would like to use the QField mobile app for this event
1. Contact event organizer Veronica Nixon by March 4th to be added to the QFieldCloud saguaro survey project.
2. Follow the instructions in the event instructions below to download the QField mobile app on your device.
3. Arrive at 9:30 on March 5th for QField orientation.

A little background on the Papago Park Saguaro Map:
The 'map' is actually several GIS datasets independently maintained by the various cities and organizations that share the park. PHXGeo has participated for several years in the annual Desert Botanical Garden Saguaro Inventory. In recent years we have begun volunteering with City of Phoenix and City of Tempe to map saguaros across hundreds of acres of Papago Park.
By supporting the saguaro mapping efforts of each of the cities and organizations in Papago Park, we hope to create a resource to help better understand this plant population that is quintessential to Arizona and central to our community.
