As cPrime's Chief Scientist, Dr. Thompson has trained thousands of people in Scrum and Kanban, and created cPrime's Agile Scaling and Portfolio-Management solutions and consulting standards. He has helped over one hundred clients, ranging from very small to very large, with Agile development of Web applications, Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence systems, Cloud computing, compilers, computer games, laboratory equipment, telecommunications hardware, and medical products. Dr. Thompson is committed to advancing the state of the art of Agile Project Management, not only within, but beyond, the world of software-product development. His pioneering RAGE paper (Recipes for Agile Governance in the Enterprise), innovation in Agile Portfolio Management, and pioneering work in Agile Hardware development reflect this commitment. Dr. Thompson earned his BS in Physics from Santa Clara University, and his Ph.D. in Physics from Princeton University. The Silicon Valley Chapter is a regional component of the Project Management Institute and a resource for all aspects of project management leadership and information in California's Silicon Valley (southern end of San Francisco Bay). The chapter’s 2,000 plus members enjoy over 180 yearly local activities supported by an all volunteer staff. In addition, the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification has been achieved by over 50% of its members.

The Chapter’s mission is to support the interests and needs of its members by providing the leadership and forums for expanding and sharing the knowledge of Project Management.
