iNaturalist: Record, Collect and Share your Observations

Details

One of the many joys of spending time in the outdoors is exploring and discovering new and exciting things in the natural world. Smartphones are a great way to take photographs of what you observe and the iNaturalist app allows the users to share and ask questions about what they’ve found. In this one-day class, you will learn to quickly and efficiency take pictures of observations, and then share them with an exciting global and local community of people sharing their observations and knowledge of the natural world. We will combine classroom discussions of how to use the app and the website with field hikes into the Point Reyes National Seashore. There will be experts on native plants, butterflies, and birds available to help ID species. Even if you don’t own a smartphone, you can use a digital camera to take photos and upload them to a computer later. At the end of the day, we will gather all of our observations and create a full list of our species. This will be great practice for two upcoming BioBlitzes in the area next spring.

Open to people of all skill levels.
