Writing Under the Full Moon

Details

Join us for a fun and beautiful survey of poetic-nature works, and an inspired weekend of writing poems. As the morning birds sing, or the full moon shines above us, we'll read the work of other nature writers and write poems or short prose in response, honing though words our own relationship to the world. We'll go way back in time, reading old poems such as the Egyptian Hymn to the Sun God. In a field of wildflowers, we'll read an eclogue and a pastorale and follow medieval nature-poetic forms. We'll argue—or agree—with the Romantics, Whitman, and the Beats about "nature" and study how contemporary poets like Mary Oliver and Kay Ryan evoke an intimate sense of place. Writing in community on a hillside overlooking stunning Drake’s Bay is a great way to connect deeply with the natural world; there will also be plenty of time for reverie. This class is open to everyone.
