2nd Wednesday of the Month Talk Format Meeting

Details

• What we'll do (BRING PHOTO ID)

Bradford Chamberlain of Cray Inc will speak on the Chapel Programming language:

Brad Chamberlain is a Principal Engineer at Cray Inc. where he leads the design and implementation of the Chapel parallel programming language. Brad is also associated with the University of Washington as an affiliate professor in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering.

In this talk, Brad will describe Chapel—a programming language whose goal is to support productive, general-purpose parallel computing at scale. Chapel can be viewed as striving to be as easy to read and write as Python while resulting in scalable performance that competes with Fortran, C, OpenMP, and MPI (the de facto choices for large-scale scientific computing). Chapel is portable, running on laptops, clusters, the cloud, and supercomputers. It is also open-source, being developed at GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license.
