Wednesday Evening Soccer - Penn Park Turf

Lower Walnut Street & South 31st Street

8/9/19 Update: Hi everyone. I wanted to update members on the various pick-up soccer events that are taking place in the Philadelphia area. This specific event is still happening but some of the information was dated or labeled incorrectly. This is a free pick-up soccer event that will be occurring every Wednesday starting at 6pm at the Penn Park facility that is situated below the Walnut St bridge. The field entrance is at LOWER WALNUT ST and 31st ST intersection if you are looking on GPS maps. There is a private lot located there that charges $4/hr for parking or you can park on the street and pay the street meter for less. If you park on Walnut St by World Cafe Live there is a ramp and stairs to take you down to the field. THERE IS A CATCH WITH THIS FREE EVENT HOWEVER. This park is owned by the University of Pennsylvania and is frequently rented out to other groups. If this is the case you will not be able to play on the field. When there is no reservation anyone is allowed to play on the field. If you are uncomfortable with taking the risk of not knowing please check the Upenn athletic site reservations first before coming. If you take a bicycle please park against the fence outside of the turf, not on it. There is no specific field for Meetup members and you should join any games in progress or start a new one. You should come with turf or grass cleats (sneakers would be a poor choice), water, and two different colored shirts. You then jump on to the game with the least amount of people or odd sides. The games are played across the width so as to allow 3 games on each field. There is no goalie as small sided PUG style goals are used. Ace Adams is the primary field but there is another turf field next to it that can be used if Ace is already taken. There is also a grass field located behind the tennis courts (see picture above) that we will use if both turf fields are full. There are separate bathrooms onsite for male and female players (no port-o-potties).
