Hi! We're the Panera Collective! We meet every other Sunday at the Panera in Downtown Brooklyn to critique each other's novels. Some of us usually head out for a few optional drinks after the workshop to decompress and socialize and we have on occasion organized other social events.
We met on Meetup in 2015 but closed the group when it got too large. We've since had a few seats open up and are currently looking for a cohort of 3 to 5 writers to join our group.
How to join the Panera Collective in four easy steps:
1. Join on Meetup and answer the required questions.
2. If approved for membership, RSVP to a workshop session.
3. Christina will send you the readings in advance of the meeting. Come prepared with comments.
4. After you attend two sessions as a commenter, you're a full member and can submit your own writing! Submissions are capped at 2,000 words and must be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
Q: I'm writing a vampire-paranormal-urban fantasy with steampunk erotica elements. It involves a wereseahorse who is questioning his gender identity. May I join?
A: Yes! We accept anything from literary fiction to genre and commercial. As long as it's a novel and written in English, we'd love to read your work.
Q: If I write terribly, will you make fun of me?
A: First off, no! We're a kind and supportive group. Secondly, watch out for those pesky adverbs.
Q: I'm an amazing, talented, wonderful, very serious writer. Are you guys actually smart enough to give me meaningful comments?
Q: Do I have to attend every meeting?
A: No, we all have lives outside of writing. We have found, however, that regular attendance has been imperative in creating a cohesive group.
Q: How old are you people?
A: We are mostly in our 20s and 30s, but are open to all ages.
