Visualize the Uncertainty in Your Data - Kristi Potter

**Date change: This meetup's on a Tuesday** Everyone is talking about data visualization. But how do you communicate the question marks, where uncertainty is an important deciding factor? Perhaps the best opportunities are where data are sparse, or where values have been approximated. Kristi Potter, PhD of NREL will show us how to convey this to your audience, talking about her own co-authored paper. Join us January 22. Info about Kristi's work here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=uYkNjF8AAAAJ&hl=en ** WE HAVE A SPONSOR! ** Please welcome QCon.ai as our sponsor for this meetup! They are a dedicated AI and machine learning conference for senior software engineers, architects, and technical managers. They also will be buying us Pizza!!! (Beer is provided by our friends at Code Talent!). April 15 - 17, 2019 Parc 55 - A Hilton Hotel, San Francisco, CA Please check out https://qcon.ai and talk to Wes, their conference chair, who will be attending Kristi's talk as well! Thank you QCon.ai!

The Case for Learned Index Structures - Harry Brumleve

We rely on DBs to index our data, but what if we could use algorithms based upon business rules to ensure we find things faster and with fewer resources? This is a thought-provoking paper that will investigate replacing some of our industry's more common index structures with ML Algorithms. Also: Plenty of pizza and beer!
