In light of the drastic social changes we are all dealing with I would like to plan some virtual meet-ups for parents who would like a place to talk about how they are parenting and coping as we distance ourselves physically and wait for things to return to normal.
I am an early childhood therapist (LCSW) and know that many parents are worried, stressed, and unsure of how they will navigate the weeks ahead. This is not intended to be a clinical group but I do want to share some expert thoughts on supporting our kids and ourselves as we adjust to and cope with the limitations in our social lives and just create a space for parents to talk, share ideas, and get support.
Isolation and being home with kids for extended periods of time can lead to emotional distress - Let's create a place to alleviate some of that isolation.
I'm not sure what to expect as I post this. Maybe nobody will be interested and may many will be. I'm going to roll with the response. I imagine hosting a virtual meet up on an online platform like Zoom or Google Hangouts Meet. If there is interest, Ill plan something for the next few days. If its well-received, I'll plan some more.
Some themes I imagine discussing are: how to support the kids/what to tell them, entertaining kids, staying calm in such close quarters, working from home with kids around, getting basic supplies (diapers, formula, etc), dealing with co-parenting/custody issues, etc. Please share your ideas!
If you're a parent wanting to talk and connect with other parents while we all cope with COVID19, please consider joining.
