What we're about

WiMLDS is a community of women interested in Machine Learning & Data Science. We host events (lightning talks, technical workshops, paper study lunches and networking events) managed by prominent researchers, engineers, statisticians, students, where we discuss machine learning and data science with the purpose of building a community around women in these fields.

All genders may attend our meetups.

19. Hors-série #5 - Workshop on Bayesian Workflows with CmdStanPy - Paris WiMLDS

The Women in Machine Learning & Data Science (WiMLDS) Meetup aims to inspire, educate, regardless of gender, and support women and gender minorities in the field. We are back for our 19th edition and our 1st coding workshop! All genders may attend our meetups. ------------------------ Learn how to implement Bayesian workflows using CmdStanPy (a Python interface for Stan). In this hands-on workshop, we will be working with a very fun (surprise!) dataset and make predictions using Bayesian methods. CmdStanPy allows pythonistas to add the power of Bayesian inference to their toolkit via a small set of functions and objects designed to use minimal memory and parallelize computation. Given a dataset and a statistical model written as a Stan program, CmdStanPy compiles the model, runs Stan’s MCMC sampler (via CmdStan) to obtain a sample from the posterior, and assembles this sample as a numpy nd-array or pandas.dataframe for downstream visualization and analysis. Seats are limited. Only subscribe if you know you will attend the workshop. As usual, the workshop will be led in English. ------------------------ AGENDA ------------------------ 6:30pm - 7:00pm: Introduction 7:00pm - 7:30pm: Intro to Bayesian Inference using Stan 7:30pm - 8:30pm: Hands-on Workshop 8:30pm - 9:00pm: Wrap Up / Networking ------------------------ SPEAKER BIO ------------------------ Mitzi Morris is a member of the Stan development team and the developer of CmdStanPy ( https://mc-stan.org/about/team/ ). She has worked as a software engineer in both academia and industry. She started out writing tools for Natural Language Processing in C and Java, then moved to genomics and biomedical informatics where she built pipelines for high-throughput sequencing electronic medical records data, all of which led to an increased interest in doing more and better statistics. She has been a Stan contributor since 2014 and joined the Stan team at Columbia in 2017. ------------------------ CODE OF CONDUCT ------------------------------- WiMLDS is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate. Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down others. Behave professionally. Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate. Thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly community for all. All attendees should read the full Code of Conduct before participating: https://github.com/WiMLDS/starter-kit/wiki/Code-of-conduct ------------------------ WHAT TO BRING ------------------------ - Your laptop - Your smile :)

20. Paris Women in Machine Learning & Data Science @VPTech

BBL #1 Paris WiMLDS Paper Reading Session

WiMLDS Paris is launching a new format: paper reading sessions. These sessions will happen at lunchtime, each 3rd Thursday of the month. The goal of these events is to take some time to discuss Machine Learning and Data Science papers that we found interesting, and take the opportunity to discover ML-passionate people in Paris. The events are limited to 30 people so discussions between attendees remain possible. This session's paper will be "Learning Embeddings for Product Size Recommendations" (https://bit.ly/2Z88rff), and discussions around the paper may concern among other subjects: recommender systems, transfer learning. Lunch is provided by Agorize, please reach out to organizers about any food allergy or restriction you might have. Don't hesitate to share content on social networks using #WiMLDSParis, #BBLWiMLDSParis and @WiMLDS_Paris
