33. Bucharest & Paris WiMLDS online meetup
Details
The Women in Machine Learning & Data Science (WiMLDS) Meetup aims to inspire, educate, regardless of gender, and support women and gender minorities in the field.
We are back for a special online meetup : a joint meetup between the Bucharest & Paris WiMLDS chapters!
Our meetups will keep on happening online in order to keep you safe until further notice.
All genders may attend our meetups.
A Zoom link will be provided prior to the meetup.

Agenda
18:30 – Introduction by the Bucharest & Paris WiMLDS team
---
18:40 – “RAPIDS: erase the waiting hassle ” by Andrada Olteanu, Data Scientist at Endava
Abstract: Work with bigger data, preprocess faster, do more experiments with your models ... in less time, writing the (almost) same code. Join me to see how you can apply the RAPIDS technology in you every day Data Science Workflows.
19:10 – “Solutions for running R on AWS Lambda” by Ana-Maria Niculescu, Data Scientist at Numeract
Abstract: Deploying R models in production is not very easy but it is a good problem to have. There are diverse approaches towards creating deployment packages for AWS Lambda and creating an API but which one is the best fit for R? This presentation aims to compare currently available approaches and to present a custom solution.
19:40 - “Data Science for Financial Fraud Detection” by Denisa Banulescu, Maître de Conférences (Associate Professor) - Université d'Orléans (Laboratoire d'Economie d'Orléans)
Abstract: Fraud is a complex, time-evolving and intentional phenomenon, taking a wide variety of forms. This makes fraud detection a very specific area of statistical modelling. It not only requires skills in data science and econometrics (knowledge of statistical models and their properties), but also economic and legal skills to understand the motivations and the strategic behavior of fraudsters. This talk focuses on the challenges of fraud detection and how traditional econometric models and machine learning algorithms are used to address them.
20:10 - Quick interactive session
