This Meetup is for women in Parker interested in coming together to discuss the most acclaimed American works of fiction...one decade at a time!
Each meeting will focus on one National Book Award winner for fiction (hard back). The reading list will parallel the winners year by year in one featured decade. 2019 will be the year of fiction winners from the 1980's. In 2020, we'll tackle the fiction winners from the 1990's. And in 2021, we'll read and discuss the fiction winners from the 2000's.
It's ambitious...but we can do it!
Here is the list of winners from the 1980's:
1980 - Sophie's Choice by William Styron 1981 - Plains Song: for Female Voices by Wright Morris 1982 - Rabbit is Rich by John Updike 1983 - The Color Purple by Alice Walker 1984 - Victory Over Japan: A Book of Stories by Ellen Gilchrist 1985 - White Noise by Don DeLillo 1986 - World's Fair by E.L. Doctorow 1987 - Paco's Story by Larry Heinemann 1988 - Paris Trout by Pete Dexter 1989 - Spartina by John Casey
We will meet once every 5 to 6 weeks on a weekend day in Parker. Coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, parks, you name it. The point is become better educated, share ideas, and meet other curious and intelligent women in our lovely little community.
So please join us! The 1980's journey begins Saturday January 12, 2019, at noon.
