This is a group for anyone who wants to learn about the concept of 'partnership', as first described in ‘The Chalice and The Blade’ by Riane Eisler, and who wants to live in ways that help bring about a partnership-oriented society.
So what is partnership living?
Partnership Living Definition: The Domination - Partnership Continuum was developed by Riane Eisler to describe the fundamental organizing characteristics of every culture. Every culture on the planet falls somewhere on this spectrum with no culture being fully domination or fully partnership-oriented. Highly partnership-oriented societies are those societies that are systemically peaceful, equalitarian, democratic, and reverent towards nature. Highly domination-oriented societies are those societies that are systemically violent, oppressive, authoritarian, and oppositional towards nature. Partnership living is a way of living that helps bring about a highly partnership-oriented society.
If you are an activist or anyone who is trying to help make the world a better place, you owe it to yourself to read The Chalice and The Blade. The concept of Partnership is similar to the concept of Intersectional Feminism in that it attempts to show the links between all of the world’s systemic problems. I appreciate the Partnership - Domination Continuum because it helps change workers focus equally on identifying fundamental problems and their potential fundamental solutions. I feel it is often easier to identify the problem than the solution so I'm always super appreciative of anything that makes it easier to understand potential solutions.
Also, I very highly recommend anyone interested in the ancestry of white people to read The Chalice and The Blade. It appears that white people's ancestry can be traced back to systemically peaceful indigenous societies if you look back far enough into prehistory. So the myth that white people have always had a dominator culture appears to be yet another lie. I have found this realization very nourishing and I am excited to share it with more people.
Also, The Chalice and The Blade challenges the idea that agriculture (and the concept of civilization itself) is the main reason for our downfall as a species. The archaeological record seems to indicate rather that systems of oppression were developed much later than the invention of agriculture. Is agriculture and technological advancement (by themselves) really a core problem in our society, or is it something else? What happened to radically distort our original peaceful nature? There appears to be a fundamental and vital difference between Dominator agriculture and technology and Partnership agriculture and technology. Understanding as much as we can about what happened to bring us to this point, I feel, can give us vital insight in how to help heal our world.
It appears that the current systems of oppression and humanity's destruction of the environment are a relatively new cultural invention for humanity and are in no way necessary or inevitable. Who is to say whether we can or will shift our systems to a partnership-orientation before we experience massive ecological collapse and very possibly extinct ourselves. If we are going to have any chance at survival and massive systems change, we need more people to see through the lies of this culture and see the truth of what has happened so we can truthfully explore what is possible.
This group is for connecting with other truthseekers, healers, community builders, change workers and people that are seeking healing, community, and to help make the world a better place. I have committed myself to living a partnership-oriented lifestyle and to helping others to do so as well. I look forward to meeting more people who are interested in learning about partnership and finding more people who are interested in committing similarly (eventually, and in whatever capacity is realistic for people) and supporting each other as a community.
I intend this group to be a safe space for people who are trying to help, in whatever capacity they are able to. If you are interested in learning more, I'd love to talk with you at one of our events! I also do not intend to facilitate this group all by myself. I would love to find co-facilitators that want to set up partnership-oriented events around Portland and surrounding areas. If you are interested in co-facilitating, please get in touch with me!
And despite my promotion of The Chalice and The Blade, I do not fully endorse everything written in this book. Also, I am continuing to learn just like everyone else. My mind is open wide to find the truth wherever it can be found. Much has been discovered and written on the origins of humanity and systems of oppression. I continue to study these works to better understand the truth of our collective past. I welcome critique offered in the spirit of deepening our collective truthseeking. I want to form community where all questions, if asked with sincerity, are welcome and encouraged. I'm sure that I still have blindspots. We need each other to help each other wake up. I'm deeply appreciative of insight that helps me see deeper into the truth. I look forward to helping create more safe space for deep collective inquiry.
