BACKGROUND

For 19 years, the prison has violated international human rights laws: Holding prisoners without charges or trials, subjecting them to severe conditions, including indefinite detention, prolonged solitary confinement, physical and psychological abuse. Most of the people still held at GITMO were imprisoned with no legal basis and never charged with a crime.
