INFORMATIONAL POST: Want to be a Sierra Club Leader - day hiking outings
Outdoor Leadership Training Classes for new leaders on 19 September 2018! Do you want to be a Sierra Club Leader of dayhiking outings? Lead your friends to new and amazing wonders of nature? Do you want to hone your leadership skills? Then this is the class for you - Highly Experienced Outings Leaders will share their decades of experience in leading outdoor trips, and apply their knowledge to OLT 101, the Sierra Club’s Basic Leader Training This training is mandatory for new leaders who wish to lead any trip that does not require an overnight stay. This covers day hiking, kayaking, ski trips, etc. During the class, we’ll cover the following topics: I. Overview of Sierra Club Structure A. Structure 1. Club structure 2. Outdoor Activities structure B. Outdoor Activities mission and goals C. History of outings D. Conservation II. Outings leader requirements III. Planning an outing A. Concept B. Approval C. Location and route D. Safety management planning E. Publicity F. Pre-outing communication G. Canceling an Outing IV. Conducting an outing A. Forms B. Transportation C. Trailhead talk D. Leave No Trace/Outdoor ethics E. Emergency response F. On-Outing issues G. Ending an outing H. After an outing V. Online resources Thursday, 19 September at the Peninsula Conservation Center, 3921 East Bayshore Road, Palo Alto CA Class times: 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Dinner will be served Cost: $10 covers food and class materials, as well as donations to the Chapter Trainer: Lisa Barboza, Loma Prieta Sierra Club Outing Chair: [masked] Lisa has climbed over 600 peaks, both in the US and Internationally, and has led over 100 Sierra Club Outings. She is a naturalist, environmentalist and is passionate about the outdoors. Formerly the Peak Climbing Section Chair for 3 years, she has been the Loma Prieta Sierra Club Outing Chair since 2016. This class is taught at least twice annually, depending on the need.

    Let's Climb! Get out there into the real world - the world of nature and wilderness - This is the Meetup Site for the Northern California Peak Climbing Section - We attract climbers from all over northern California. We offer monthly climbing trips to the Sierra, Coast Range, Great Basin, the Cascades, and longer expeditions overseas as well.

    We offer qualified Sierra Club leaders who have been certified by the Sierra Club. All of our leaders have gone through a training process, Wilderness First Aid, and have years of experience. We welcome anyone interested in the beauty of mountaineering - and getting out into the real world. Beginners welcome!
