What we're about

The purpose of this group to promote fitness through hiking & mountain biking and to build friendships with others who share the same interests. Anyone who is over 40 and wants to start or continue their outdoor recreation journey is welcome to join! The primary meet ups will be hiking and biking, but we'll also have meet ups to just be social. These can include meeting at a restaurant, coffee shop or some outdoor related event.

**Please note for safety reasons (if someone is to get hurt etc), each meetup must have at least 4 people.

Brown's Ranch Perimeter Loop-Mountain Bike Ride

City of Scottsdale - Brown's Ranch Trailhead

No drop, early morning, fun & social ride at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Meet some great people and get your cardio in. This ride Loops around Browns and Granite Mountain, then back through Balanced Rock and the Amphitheater.

Route:
North on the Brown's Ranch Road. Take the first left onto the Upper Ranch Trail and follow this all the way behind Brown's Mountain past Basalt Ridge Trail to Brown's Ranch Road where you make a left. Briefly follow the road until you reach the Corral Trail, turn right and continue pedaling until the trail reaches an intersection. Turn left here onto the High Desert Trail.

I acknowledge that mountain biking is a high-risk sport. I realize there
are certain dangers inherent in the sport of mountain biking, and I assume these risks with the full understanding that injuries may result from my participation in any event.
I intend this release to discharge the above named from any and all
liability arising from or connected in any way with my participation in any event, even though that liability may result from the negligence or
carelessness of the above named.

I certify that my bicycle is suitable for safe use in all events, that I am
in good physical condition, and that I am able to complete the event or make it back on my own in the event I separate from the group.
I agree to wear a bicycle helmet properly adjusted and fastened when
participating in bicycle events and
agree to wear some type of eye protection.

Desert Classic - Mountain Bike Ride

Desert Classic Bike Trail - Trailhead & Parking

Ranked #1 MTB trail in South Mountain- Desert Classic is considered one of the easier trails, but is rated intermediate. The trail is rocky and has sandy washes. There are dips in and out of gullies and washes with a few having short, steep climbs that some beginners may find challenging. We will ride to Telegraph Pass Trail and then turn around.

Watson Lake Kayak

Watson Lake

Enjoy the summer with us for a kayak and picnic at Watson Lake in Prescott. Watson Lake located near Prescott, Arizona features a lake, dam, fishing hiking and camping. The surrounding area offers amazing rock formations and a walk on the dam.

To join this event please bring your own kayak / paddle board or rent one. The rental company offers two person canoes, one or two person kayaks, and paddle boards. You will need to reserve your own kayak in advance. Last year the kayaks were first come first serve for reservations and we rented out the entire fleet months in advance. This year the rental company has doubled their fleet size however, this event may still sell out in advance.

Meet and greet your fellow Meetup members at the picnic location. From there, we will proceed down to the dock to pick up our kayaks at the North Dock where our kayaks will be. From the water you can access the many rock crop islands, caves not visible or accessible by land. Unfortunately, swimming is NOT allowed at this lake, but water paddle fights are. Kayak rentals are full day 6am till sunset.

* At least 4 liters of water (It gets hot in the boats).

Watson Lake / Goldwater Lake Weekend Hike, Kayak, Camp

White Spar Campground

For anyone wanting to make a weekend out of the Watson Lake Kayak event on Saturday Aug 21st. I have added a beautiful forest hike to Goldwater Lake on Sunday Aug 22nd. Base camp will be at White Spar camp ground which is located 15 minutes from Watson Lake. White Spar camp ground is a thick forest campsite that has an 8-mile moderate trail leading to Goldwater Lake. Saturday Aug 21st we will be at Watson Lake enjoying a day on the lake and returning to camp Saturday evening. Open format for dinner and drinks Saturday evening anything goes. Sunday morning, we will pack up and hike to Goldwater Lake taking along a picnic lunch. The hike to the Lake is a shaded hike in the pines. There is picnic tables, toilets, fishing, kayaking at the lake however no swimming.

There are plenty of open campsites for you to reserve your site. Please self-reserve at: https://www.recreation.gov/ the cost is $14 a night. I will be arriving Friday night for anyone who cares to join me to get an easy start to Watson Lake Saturday morning. There is also rural camping in the area.

What to Bring:
Your own camping gear, tent, drinking water and food. We are close to Prescott about 20 min from local supermarkets and resurants.

Location: Trail 396. To reach the west trailhead, travel south on White Spar Road 1.8 miles past its junction with Copper Basin Road. Turn left at the sign for White Spar Campground. Park in the lot to the right. Meet at the trail head in White Spar campsite.

Distance: 8.2 miles out and back 1,233 elevation gain
